Our Team
Sarah Schneider, MA, LPC, CMHIMP
I’m so glad you are here!
My work centers around adults of all ages and children as young as five years old looking to heal from depression, anxiety, and other mood changes that can happen throughout life. I have over ten years of experience providing evidence-based, individualized services to children, adolescents, and adults. My passion has always been helping others; the longer I am in the field, the more this passion flourishes. I enjoy seeing my clients’ transformation and healing!
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), which means I help you find ways out of suffering or confusion and into wellness. I specialize in integrative psychotherapy, drawing on scientifically proven methods from psychology, neuroscience, and integrative medicine to foster physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. In our sessions, I use empathy, compassion, and insight in addition to my education and training to guide your healing.
My style of working with people is very down-to-earth, holistic, and gentle. I have a very warm and uplifting spirit that I use to encourage you through your life journey. I create an environment where you are free to find the truth that is within you. We’ll begin where you are and feel most comfortable.
I’ll guide you toward self-actualization by making step-by-step changes to your beliefs, thoughts, and self-care behaviors at a comfortable and sustainable pace.
Ashley Birkholz, MSW, LCSW, CSAC
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor with 12 years of post-graduate experience working with a variety of clients. I feel I am compassionate and relatable to my clients. I approach treatment from a biopsychosocial perspective and look at the individual.
I believe that each client is an individual and should be treated as such. I also take pride in providing education to my clients to give them options to make an educated decision about their unique situation.
I am trained to utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to treat trauma, as well as clients that are feeling “stuck.” EMDR is a highly effective therapy for trauma and mental health treatment.
I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, an AODA certification from Moraine Park Technical College, and a master’s degree in social work, also from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. I spent three years working with clients in a healthcare setting and worked at Ozaukee County Human Services as a Crisis Case Manager, as well as individual therapy in the private sector prior to joining Schneider Counseling.
I have a strong interest in the First Responder/Veteran population. I also specialize in treating grief, stress, trauma, life transitions, anxiety and depression.
I specialize in treating clients age 21 and up.

I hope you are so proud of yourself! Life can be overwhelming, asking for help isn’t easy, and starting the therapy process can feel daunting, and yet here you are doing it. I hope to welcome you to a safe space where you can come as you are, unload everything without shame, and begin the healing process that you so rightfully deserve.
You are not defined by your diagnoses, struggles, or past; there is so much more that makes you, you. That’s why I’m passionate about whole-person care. I’m working with all of you not just pieces and I value getting to know your true self. My approach to therapy is nonjudgmental, empathic, authentic, and collaborative. I want you to feel comfortable showing up as your true self just as I will.
When working together I want you to know, we are a team, you are the expert of your life and I highly value your feedback. My entire goal is to help you reach yours, so as a team we will decide how our sessions run and I will personalize treatment based on your goals and feedback. Our sessions will always be guided through a cultural and trauma-informed lens and I can pull from a variety of theories and techniques such as person-centered, strength-based approaches, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy.
I’m so very happy you’re here and I’m excited to join you in your journey and empowering you along the way.
Laurel Liska, Counseling Intern
If you’ve found yourself here, you may be feeling overwhelmed, unsure, or simply in need of a space where you can just be yourself. I work with children, teens, and adults, and I strive to create a welcoming, supportive environment for people of all ages. Therapy can be a place to slow down, reflect, and begin to feel more like yourself again. You don’t need to have everything figured out. Wherever you are right now, I’m here to meet you there, and we’ll take things one gentle step at a time.
Together, we’ll take time to understand your experiences, honor your feelings, and gently work through whatever challenges you may be facing. Whether you’re a child learning to express big emotions, a teen navigating change, or an adult seeking clarity and balance, we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable and right for you.
My approach is grounded in empathy and collaboration. I use a variety of therapeutic tools tailored to each person’s developmental stage and unique needs. I primarily draw from Person-Centered Therapy to build a warm, trusting relationship, and incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help explore thought patterns, process emotions, and develop practical strategies for everyday life.
I am so honored to support you during these next steps regardless of your age or where you are in your journey. Every step moving forward is worth celebrating, and I will be here cheering you on!

If you feel like you’re doing everything right but still waking up stressed, exhausted, or disconnected from the people you love, you are not alone.
We often think our struggles belong entirely to us, but the truth is that our well-being is deeply tied to the relationships we share and the environments we navigate. As a Marriage and Family Therapy professional, I view therapy as a collaborative partnership. Rather than isolating individual symptoms, we’ll look at the whole picture to see how your relationship dynamics and daily surroundings shape how you feel and connect. This relational lens allows us to look beyond the surface, breaking old loops to create real, lasting change.
My path to this work brings a unique perspective to the session. Alongside my clinical practice, I am an active yoga teacher, and I previously spent fifteen years as a professional, classical performing artist. Navigating those high-pressure environments gave me a firsthand, intimate understanding of the intense stress and burnout that people face today. Because of this, my practice is forward-moving and practical, blending deep empathy with a down-to-earth, mind-body approach that resonates with therapy skeptics and mindfulness-oriented clients alike.
In our work together, my goal is to help you bridge the gap between where you are and the sense of balance you are longing for. Because every client’s experience is unique, I tailor my approach to your specific needs. When working with individuals facing anxiety or depression, I often draw from the structured principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused interventions, blending them with the calming clarity of mindfulness. For couples looking to deepen their bond or heal conflict, I incorporate trusted, evidence-based methods like the Gottman Method and Emotion-Focused Therapy.
I aim to provide a safe, warm space where you can explore life’s transitions with both clinical expertise and real, human connection. Together, we will work to uncover your innate strengths, restore your relationships, and build a life that feels truly aligned and at ease.
Mack
Mack is a 3-year-old black lab mix. Mack was a rescue from the streets of Alabama and was brought to Wisconsin when he was just 12 weeks old. Mack was rescued by therapist Ashley and her fiancé, when he was 15 weeks old, and went to live in his forever home. Mack is currently in the process of becoming a therapy dog, and you may get to see him around the office!
Mack absolutely loves meeting new people and enjoys being with others. When Mack isn’t at work he loves to go on walks, chew on sticks, and pull the stuffing out of every toy. He really loves to swim when the weather is nice! Mack enjoys doggie day camp and playing with his canine friends as well. Mack is hopeful to bring joy and comfort to all his friends at the office. Mack is the sweetest boy!
