Heal your trauma using EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative, evidence-based
psychotherapy that supports clients in healing from trauma or other negative experiences.
During an EMDR session, a trained clinician uses bilateral stimulation (often eye movements) while encouraging the client to recall a specific event. This process has been shown to reduce distress and create more adaptive beliefs related to that experience. Clients may like using EMDR because they do not have to talk about the details of traumatic experiences and are in control of the healing process.
How does it work?
EMDR follows an eight-phase structure, with early phases designed to help ensure clients are prepared for EMDR processing. It was initially created to address Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Research has
demonstrated that EMDR can effectively reduce symptoms related to other mental health issues that might stem from negative experiences.
At Schneider Counseling, EMDR can be used to address:
- Anxiety
- Panic Attacks
- Depression
- Grief and Loss
- Recent accident/ traumatic event
- Physical or Sexual Abuse
- Work-related stress for First Responders and Crisis workers
